About Us

Established in 1970 Crewe Saddlery – Performance Saddle Fitting, is a team of Society of Master Saddlers (SMS) trained and Reg. Qualified Saddle Fitters.

Bea & Emma make up the in house team and regularly see over 20+ horses a week, bringing together a wealth of skills and knowledge with their 45+ years’ combined experience. We also work alongside independant Qualified Fitting Partners so you are able to purchase saddles and bridles from Crewe Saddlery via our fitting network around the UK  (see the About Us section below).

We believe regular saddle fitting is an integral part of your horse’s care regime. Our focus is for your horse to be comfortable allowing for freedom of movement and for you as riders to feel balanced and secure.

We are proud to have a large, loyal customer base, building trust with our clients and their horses in paramount. Providing you with excellent customer care is important to us but being on the road means our reply isn’t always instant. We aim to respond to enquiries the same working day or the next working day and sometimes in the evening (Monday to Friday).

(Please note we are unable to reply on Bank Holidays, over the Easter weekend and between Christmas & New Year. Other closures due to team holidays will be posted on Facebook.)

Beatrice – ‘Bea’ joined the family business in 1989 and took over management of the company in 2001, overseeing many changes including the closure of the retail store and the business’s relocation. Bea has been a Qualified Saddle Fitter since 1996 and heads up an ‘A’ team of saddle fitters. Fitting is still her primary role and alongside her work as a Society of Master Saddlers Executive Committee Member, Bea is dedicated to shaping the industry for the future.

Bea is available for saddle checks Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday and new saddle fits on Friday.

Emma

SMS Master Saddle Fitter & SMS Qualified Saddler

Emma joined the company in 1993 and trained firstly to be a Qualified Saddler and then to be a Saddle Fitter, gaining her Qualified Saddle Fitter status in 2000. In 2023 Emma has upgraded her status to Master Saddle Fitter. As our flocking specialist, Emma has lots of creative ways when it comes to problem solving those difficult fits. Emma is a regular rider and has a keen eye for minor changes making a big difference.

Emma fits for Crewe Saddlery on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday  between 9am-2pm

Outside of Crewe Saddlery Emma also runs her own fitting business EK Saddlery, providing saddle check services and new saddle fits in the Cheshire area for new and existing clients.

Michelle

SMS Qualified Saddle Fitter 

Michelle joined the company in 2024 and trained firstly with Deva Saddle Fitting after a change of career, gaining her Lantra Saddle Fitting Qualification. Michelle has since gained her Society of Master Saddlers Qualification. Michelle is the proud owner of 3 horses and is a regular rider.

Michelle fits for Crewe Saddlery on Thursdays.

Outside of Crewe Saddlery Michelle works alongside Juliet @ Deva Saddle Fitting, providing saddle check services in the Chester, Wirral and the North Wales area. You are also able to purchase Crewe saddles via Deva Saddle Fitting.

FITTING PARTNER VERMILLION EQUINE

Lantra Qualified Bridle Fitter Claire Chadwick covers Cheshire and surrounding counties. In partnership with Crewe Saddlery, Claire provides bridle fitting services for the Fairfax Performance Bridles and the Finesse Bridles as well as advising on other bridle types and bit fitting.

Claire has been a customer of Crewe Saddlery for many years and team leader Bea looks after Claire’s saddle fitting needs. When the opportunity arose for like minds to work together it made sense.

FITTING PARTNER DEVA SADDLE FITTING

Based near Chester, Juliet and Michelle aka Deva Saddle Fitting hold the Lantra Remedial Saddle Fitting Qualification. Providing fitting solutions for you and your horse through adjustment of your own saddle or finding the right saddle if your saddle is no longer suitable.

Michelle is also undertaking her final assessments to become an SMS Qualified Saddle Fitter in 2024.

Deva stocks a range of saddles provided by Crewe Saddlery to service customers in the West Cheshire, Wirral and North Wales area – brands include Arena, Bates,  GFS, Fairfax, Kent & Masters, Thorowgood & Wintec.

Michelle also works part time with the in house Crewe Saddlery team.

FITTING PARTNER THE EQUINE ADVISOR

Jo – The Equine Advisor is a lifelong horse lover and rider and is the owner of HippoHead. Covering North Lincolnshire and surrounding counties, Jo has been practicing The Equine Touch bodywork since 2015 and has been fitting saddles since 2016, deciding to become a Qualified Saddle Fitter with The Society of Master Saddlers in 2021 and qualifying in 2023.
Jo and HippoHead have competed in many disciplines over the years at Riding Club level enjoying a level of success, embracing the challenge of lessons and clinics with the likes of Nicola Wilson and Sir Lee Pearson, and loving the social aspect of camp and pleasure rides.
Jo loves nothing more than getting her saddle fitting geek on to resolve issues and seeing a happier horse with a smiling rider gives her a warm fuzzy feeling on even the coldest of days.

Jo stocks a range of GP saddles provided by Crewe Saddlery to service customers in her area.

FITTING PARTNER EMILY BRIGHT SADDLE FITTER

SMS Qualified Saddle Fitter Emily Bright is based in East Devon and covers the majority of the South West of England.
Emily is also an Equine Sports Massage Therapist, a qualification she has held since 2003 having trained with the pioneer of veterinary physiotherapy Mary Bromiley MBE. Emily spent several years massaging racehorses in Dubai where she lived for 10 years before arriving in Devon.
It was through massaging many horses that clearly wore ill fitting tack that Emily decided to begin saddle fitter training, reaching the highest standard in order to qualify with the Society of Master Saddlers and become a Registered Qualified Saddle Fitter in 2024.

Emily stocks a range of GP/Jump/Dressage saddles provided by Crewe Saddlery to service customers in her area.

EESMS Qualified Bridle Fitter, SMS Master Saddle Fitter and SMS Qualified Saddler  Emma Kettle – EK Saddlery is based in Cheshire.
Emma trained at Crewe Saddlery firstly as a Qualified Saddler before falling in love with saddle and bridle fitting. Emma is passionate about achieving the best fit and isn’t afraid to think ouotside the box to find the optimum fitting solution. Emma works part time with the in house Crewe Saddlery Team and in 2024 Emma branched out on her own, launching EK Saddlery, offering saddle checks and new saddle fits in Cheshire and surrounding areas.

Emma has full access to Crewe Saddlery saddle ranges.

FITTING PARTNER   NUTTING SADDLERY

SMS Qualified Saddle Fitter  & Trainee Bridle Fitter Hannah Nutting – Nutting Saddlery is based in West Wales.
Hannah found her passion for horses when learning to ride at an inner city riding school. Upon leaving school she worked as a groom on competition yards before gaining her BHSAI at just 21. Hannah’s interest in saddles came from an experience of a poorly fitting saddle and since moving to West Wales this became her chosen career path. Hannah likes to compete her horses in her free time and coming from a non horsey family, appreciates all the help she was given on her horse ownership journey and is committed to educating and supporting horse owners.
Hannah has access to the GFS and Wintec/Arena ranges supported by Crewe Saddlery and covers theMid and West Wales area (SA48 40 miles radius)

FITTING PARTNER   HSH SADDLERY

SSSSaddle Fitter  Hollie Smith- Houston is based in Dumfries and Galloway.
Hollie was brought up around horses and has been actively involved with the equestrian community since she was 3 years old. Hollie’s career in saddlery began with attending saddlery and bridle repair courses. Her passion for the craft, quickly grew, leading her to pursue professional training with the aim of becoming a fully qualified saddle fitter with the Society of Master saddlers. Now in the final stages of her qualification journey with final assessments to be completed this year.
Hollie has access to the GFS, Bates, Ideal, Wintec and Arena ranges supported by Crewe Saddlery and covers a wide service area, including Dumfries and Galloway, Ayrshire, Cumbriam the Borders and Central Scotland (DG)

Natalie Povey

Natalie started riding at the age of 15 at the local RDA and progressed quickly to competing in British Dressage Para Competitions. Previously a member of the BEF World Class Potential Programme, Natalie has competed nationally at various BD Para Championshops up to 3* level in the UK & abroad. Most recently Natalie has competed at able-bodied events up to Novice. Owning 2 lovely Welsh x mares. Natalie enjoys training horses to be happy and confident in their work.

Woody @ Clwyd Special Riding Centre

Woody helps both able bodied and disabled riders fine tune their riding skills. The brief from CSRC was for Woody to have his own Dressage saddle that was supportive but not too high in the cantle making it easier for riders to mount. The option to use the 2 sets of velcro thigh blocks in 2 sizes accomodate different rider physiques.
