Does a saddle have a “best before date”? It’s our opinion that they certainly do….
QSF Sarah recently went to check a saddle as the horse had start bucking, upon assessment it was easy to see why, the gullet of the saddle was so narrow it was likely to have pinched the spine causing significant discomfort. The saddle was probably made in the 1980/1990’s and is now definitely past it’s best.
We can’t recommend enough the importance of an annual saddle checks as members of the Society of Master Saddlers, not only do we check the fitting on the horse but we can assess your saddle for wear and tear and undertake potential repairs where required
